The new new-music community center of Brooklyn - "think Darmstadt meets Cheers" reads their website - hosts an informal show featuring songs from my new project Delusion Story. An augmented and fired up band including Timo Andres, Leah Coloff, James Ilgenfritz, Nathan Koci, Taylor Levine, Ron Wiltrout and yours truly on vocals.

Philip White and I perform selections of our raucous new collaboration, R We Who R We, as part of Dither Electric Guitar Quartet's annual Extravaganza! This year's celebration features a star-studded cast of performers, including the classiest Marc Ribot, playing a set of music by John Cage.

The Yale Glee Club and Yale Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Jeffrey Douma, premiere my 20-minute piece Partition, commissioned especially for this, their 150th Anniversary performance. The text comes from two sources: the Palestinian-American scholar and theorist Edward Said, in his conversations with Daniel Barenboim called "Parallels and Paradoxes;" and a record of street and business names on a diverse and developed stretch of road on either side of the Yale campus in New Haven, CT.

Philip White and I unleash a series of collaborative compositions, on Kathleen Supove's renowned new music series at the Flea Theater. Philip's work, performed on a series of homemade electronic instruments, is gripping. Dafna Naphtali and Jonathan Chen are also featured on the program. Admission is FREE.

My longtime friend, the versatile and surprising soprano Mellissa Hughes, will premiere my song i carry your heart, a dark setting of the classic love poem by e.e. cummings. My almost-as-longtime friend, the "free-spirited" Timo Andres, accompanies. The duo, who together performed Ives at my wedding, will also play new works by Jacob Cooper, Corey Dargel, Gabriel Kahane and Matt Marks. Admission is $10.

The excellent San Francisco-based vocal ensemble Volti reprises their sensitive and emotional performance of my piece Privilege, which they commissioned from me last year, and which they'll be releasing on their next commercial recording. Red Light New Music and DITHER! For the first time ever, two of my favorite groups will be collaborating on a performance. I'll be conducting Red Light in a newly composed score to the classic silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, featuring musical vignettes from a lineup that includes Vincent Raikhel, Scott Wollschleger, Chris Cerrone, Kyle Hillbrand, Derek Muro, Nathan Koci, Ayaka Nishina and many others. Also, DITHER will be performing several pieces, including those by David T. Little, Jascha Narveson and a movement from my new piece that will be premiered next year.

Singer-composer Gabriel Kahane curates this concert on the MATA Interval Series, and premieres my piece Intimacy and Resistance. Also on the program are new songs commissioned by Kahane/MATA for Andrew Norman, Yotam Haber, Joseph Hallman, Chris Thile, Shara Worden, Paola Prestini, Brett Banducci, and Timo Andres.

The Opus Zero Band from the Department of Music at Williams College performs excerpts from Katrina Ballads, featuring mezzo-soprano Virginia Warnken, at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. The music will be accompanied with films by Bill Morrison. Also on the program is music by Louis Andriessen with film by Peter Greenaway, and music and film by Michel van der Aa. Red Light New Music performs their season opener, with me conducting. The program features several iconoclastic reimaginings of older music, including Sciarrino's take on the work of Gesualdo, Voci Sottovettro, and a smudged, tweaked and graffitied Piano Concerto No. 9 by W.A. Mozart. Featuring the brilliant and subtle Yegor Shevstov.
