One of us, one of them
[2005]
piano and percussion
One of us, one of them was written for percussionist Al Cerulo and pianist Renate Rohlfing, who premiered it in May 2005 at Manhattan School of Music.
This groove-centered piece is in two parts, exploring extreme color combinations. The first uses a small harmonic palette and consistently high registration in both piano and glockenspiel. The second experiments with another kind of resonance, as the percussionist plays the strings inside the piano and the pianist slams the pedal.
