for horn, flute, piano/keyboard, electric guitar, drums

I wrote 23 in May 2005--beginning on my 23rd birthday--for horn player Nathan Koci and his ensemble New Music Collective in Charleston, South Carolina. It is essentially a through-composed and contrapuntal piece with tricky rhythms and an occasional sense of near-unwinding when disparate grooves collide.

23 was premiered at the Bang on a Can Summer Institute, Mass MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, in July 2005, by:
